The North Carolina Department of Information Technology (NCDIT) announced an additional $112 million for the Completing Access to Broadband (CAB) program, which will help provide high-speed internet access to thousands of households and businesses across the state. Union County was one of the 15 local governments selected to receive the grant. The funds will be allocated from various sources, including over $61 million from the federal American Rescue Plan awarded by NCDIT, more than $25 million from counties, and nearly $26 million from selected broadband providers.
Several counties will benefit from the grants:
– Buncombe County will receive the grant from Bellsouth Telecommunications, LLC (AT&T North Carolina) and will provide high-speed internet access to 967 locations (40% of the county’s eligible locations).
– Burke County will receive the grant from Connect Holding II, LLC (Brightspeed) and Spectrum Southeast, LLC (Charter Communications), which will provide high-speed internet access to 742 locations (21% of the county’s eligible locations).
– Caldwell County will receive the grant from Spectrum Southeast, LLC (Charter Communications) and will provide high-speed internet access to 160 locations (9% of the county’s eligible locations).
– Caswell County will receive the grant from Spectrum Southeast, LLC (Charter Communications) and will provide high-speed internet access to 589 locations (38% of the county’s eligible locations).
– Cumberland County will receive the grant from Connect Holding II, LLC (Brightspeed) and StarVision, Inc. and will provide high-speed internet access to 1,692 locations (74% of the county’s eligible locations).
– Edgecombe County will receive the grant from Connect Holding II, LLC (Brightspeed) and will provide high-speed internet access to 1,420 locations (64% of the county’s eligible locations).
– Franklin County will receive the grant from Connect Holding II, LLC (Brightspeed) and will provide high-speed internet access to 2,374 locations (50% of the county’s eligible locations).
– Granville County will receive the grant from Roanoke Connect Holdings (Fybe) and will provide high-speed internet access to 1,697 locations (40% of the county’s eligible locations).
– Harnett County will receive the grant from Connect Holding II, LLC (Brightspeed) and will provide high-speed internet access to 1,539 locations (32% of the county’s eligible locations).
– Macon County will receive the grant from BalsamWest FiberNET, LLC and will provide high-speed internet access to 1,163 locations (45% of the county’s eligible locations).
– Martin County will receive the grant from Connect Holding II, LLC (Brightspeed) and will provide high-speed internet access to 2,064 locations (95% of the county’s eligible locations).
– Northampton County will receive the grant from Connect Holding II, LLC (Brightspeed) and Spectrum Southeast, LLC (Charter Communications) and will provide high-speed internet access to 902 locations (94% of the county’s eligible locations).
– Person County will receive the grant from Spectrum Southeast, LLC (Charter Communications) and will provide high-speed internet access to 1,850 locations (54% of the county’s eligible locations).
– Polk County will receive the grant from Skyrunner, Inc. and will provide high-speed internet access to 2,680 locations (92% of the county’s eligible locations).
– Rockingham County will receive the grant from Spectrum Southeast, LLC (Charter Communications) and will provide high-speed internet access to 898 locations (39% of the county’s eligible locations).
– Stanly County will receive the grant from Bellsouth Telecommunications, LLC (AT&T North Carolina) and Windstream North Carolina, LLC and will provide high-speed internet access to 1,013 locations (22% of the county’s eligible locations).
– Swain County will receive the grant from Zito West Holding, LLC (Zito Media) and will provide high-speed internet access to 518 locations (32% of the county’s eligible locations).
– Wake County will receive the grant from Bellsouth Telecommunications, LLC (AT&T North Carolina) and Spectrum Southeast
