Apple is expected to significantly upgrade its Mac lineup in 2024 and beyond, with the M4 series of chips poised to power various Macs. This could represent the first time every Mac will utilize the same family of chips. The range of upgraded Macs includes MacBook Pros in both 14-inch and 16-inch sizes, as well as an M4 iMac and a new Mac mini with M4 and M4 Pro chip options, all launching between the end of 2024 and early 2025.
Mark Gurman, a journalist from Bloomberg, predicts that these M4 Macs will continue to be introduced throughout 2025, beginning with spring’s 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air models getting an M4 revision. Later in the year, the Mac Studio and Mac Pro are expected to join the M4 family, with the Mac Studio offering M4 Max and M4 Ultra, and the Mac Pro debuting with the M4 Ultra. By this transition, every Mac offered by Apple will utilize some variant of the M4 chip.
So far in 2024, the only new Macs launched feature the M3 chip, such as the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air models. Interestingly, the M4 chip has already arrived in the 2024 iPad Pro, making it the first Apple device to get the M4 chip before appearing in the Mac line. This upgrade is believed to mark sizable milestones in the Mac upgrade cycle as the Mac roster migrates to the M4 series over the next few months.
