Cam Davis, an Australian professional golfer, recently won his second PGA Tour title at the Rocket Mortgage Classic. The win came after a stretch of unsuccessful tournaments, which left Davis feeling mentally drained. To overcome this, Davis began working with a hypnotherapist as a means to refocus his mind.
On the final day of the tournament at the Detroit Golf Club, Davis found himself in a tense situation as Akshay Bhatia was close to taking the win. However, Bhatia’s three-putt on the final hole gifted the victory to Davis. The win came three years after Davis’s first PGA Tour victory at the same tournament.
Speaking to reporters, a relieved Davis spoke of the emotional rollercoaster he had been on for the past six months. He mentioned that he felt like he had been missing opportunities due to poor performances, and that a change in direction was necessary.
Davis’s aspirations of representing Australia at the Paris Olympics golf tournament had slipped away during his lean start to the year. The country will be represented by Jason Day and Min Woo Lee, who finished joint runner-up at the Rocket Mortgage Classic.
Moving forward, Davis hopes that his win in Detroit might put him in contention for a spot on the International team for the Presidents Cup at Royal Montreal in September. He stated that he has two more big goals for the year: finishing high on the FedExCup and trying to get on the Presidents Cup team. Davis is determined to keep up the good golf and has plenty to play for in the remaining tournaments of the year.
