The Melbourne Airport has introduced a new health club and wellness center called Higher State, which is managed by Belgravia Leisure, a leading Australian health and fitness provider. This gym concept is designed to cater to travelers, hotel guests, airport staff, and local community residents. Higher State offers a comprehensive fitness setup with functional training, personal training, group exercise classes, reformer Pilates, yoga, and various recovery amenities. These amenities include a 25-meter indoor pool, infrared sauna, meditation pod, compression recovery, virtual sessions, and signature wellness treatments.
Belgravia Leisure recognizes the physical and mental challenges that come with air travel, such as fatigue, jet lag, insomnia, and digestive issues. To address these issues, Higher State offers massage services that boost circulation, reducing fatigue, and compression recovery that uses air to massage travelers’ legs, glutes, and lower back areas.
Higher State is conveniently located within a walkable distance from Terminal 4, residing in the new, dual-branded Novotel and ibis Styles hotels. While this may be a groundbreaking move, it’s not the first time health and wellness have been integrated into airports. For instance, Roam Fitness launched a gym in Terminal F at the Philadelphia International Airport last year, and United has partnered with Therabody to introduce wellness tech products to its international business class passengers. Other cities with fitness centers in their airports include Chicago and Vancouver. The increasing trend of wellness-related travel and the recent developments in Melbourne suggest that the airport gym boom is just beginning.
