Mobile station plans to replace meteorologist ‘blindsided’ by departure

Michael White, a long-standing meteorologist at WALA-TV10, a Fox affiliate, was unexpectedly let go by the station, as he announced on his Facebook post on Monday. White expressed his surprise and disappointment at the decision, stating that he was not the one who initiated the separation and that he holds a deep affection for the Gulf Coast region. He is currently seeking employment opportunities in meteorology or public relations, and is also offering meteorology consulting services.

WALA General Manager Eric Duncan declined to comment on specific personnel matters publicly. However, he did indicate that White’s position would be filled, and praised the station’s current Chief Meteorologist, Jason Smith, for his exceptional storm tracking skills and the strong team of meteorologists he leads. Alongside Smith, WALA’s weather team includes meteorologists Matt Barrentine, Jennifer Lambers, and Nicholas Herboso. White was initially hired by WALA on December 9, 2009, and was a native of Dothan, having previously worked at WRDW in Augusta, Ga.
