Oxygen OS 15 could bring new battery optimizations for video apps (APK teardown)

OnePlus is developing a new Video Battery Saver feature for their upcoming Android 15 update, intended to reduce battery drain in certain video playback apps. The feature, currently in development, was discovered in the second Android 15 beta update for the OnePlus 12. This new feature is designed to optimize battery usage when a supported video app is draining the battery.

While the details regarding the battery optimization techniques are not yet clear, the feature description suggests that it could potentially impact the video quality, audio, and haptics. However, it is important to note that since the feature is not yet functional, it is unclear whether the anticipated battery savings will outweigh any potential adverse effects on the video-watching experience.

In addition to the Video Battery Saver feature, the latest Android 15 beta update from OnePlus includes mentions of an upcoming Charging Limit feature. This feature will cap the battery level at 80% when a device has been charging for an extended period, as a measure to slow down battery aging.
