Australians' online winter habits revealed: Dodo internet report

During the winter season, a significant portion of Australians prefer to stay indoors and engage in online activities rather than braving the cold outdoors. According to a survey conducted by local telco Dodo, Australians could spend up to 75% of their waking hours online during winter. This report, known as the “Birdwatchers Report,” delves into how Australians utilize the internet and their online habits.

The report suggests that Australians are expected to stream approximately 200 hours of content during winter. This is due in part to data indicating that the average binge-watching session lasts for six hours, with Gen Z viewers spending an impressive eight hours.

When it comes to guilty pleasures, Australians seem to enjoy late-night scrolling the most, with 51% admitting to it as their top guilty pleasure. Other popular guilty pleasures include binge-watching shows (41%), reading comment threads (31%), gaming (24%), and social media stalking (23%).

Interestingly, one in four respondents admitted to secretly watching a show or movie they were meant to watch with someone else. This trend is more prevalent among millennials and Gen Z, with 38% and 42% engaging in “streaming polyamory” (a term coined for this behavior).

In terms of data usage, Australian households average 443GB of downloads across 22 devices each month. This data usage increases during the winter season, with a 17% increase in internet usage during weekends compared to a 10% increase during summer.

In conclusion, the data suggests that Australians tend to spend more time online during the cold winter months, with activities such as streaming, gaming, and social media usage being popular pastimes. For more telco news, visit GadgetGuy.
