The Australian company Melrose has introduced a new range of supplements named Future Lab, which focuses on promoting healthy ageing. This range is designed to address common issues associated with ageing, such as cellular repair and senescence, metabolism, cardiovascular health, stress, sleep, cognitive function, inflammation, muscle and bone health, and more.
The importance of metabolic health is emphasized as the key factor in the ageing process. Metabolism, which converts food and drink into energy, tends to slow down with age and can be affected by a lack of exercise and overconsumption of ultra-processed foods. Poor metabolic function is linked to various age-related conditions, including neurodegenerative disease, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes-related disorders.
Two key products in the Future Lab range are Berberine Complex and NAD Booster. Berberine Complex aims to regulate metabolism and energy balance by activating an enzyme called adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK). This activation can enhance glucose uptake in cells, promote insulin sensitivity, and support the breakdown of fats for energy. NAD Booster, on the other hand, elevates NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) levels, which play a crucial role in various metabolic processes within cells. As NAD+ levels tend to decline as we age, raising them may help support healthy ageing by promoting cellular health.
The second phase of the Future Lab range, set for release in the second half of 2024, will focus on perimenopause and menopause, methylation, omega-3 fatty acid production, male hormone regulation, and collagen formation.
Melrose’s products are formulated by a team of healthcare professionals, utilizing the latest research and understanding of the nutrigenomics of ageing. They are optimized through proprietary delivery systems to increase the bioavailability of ingredients, which have been clinically trialled and used at therapeutic levels.
Melrose is committed to improving the health span of Australians, emphasizing the importance of lifestyle factors such as weight-bearing exercise, reducing sugar, seed oils, and ultra-processed foods, consuming adequate protein, and getting adequate sleep. The supplements are seen as the “icing on the cake” once these crucial lifestyle factors have been addressed.
Future Lab has partnered with major pharmacy retailer Chemist Warehouse for its launch in Australia. The products will also be sold direct to consumer and via online channels and healthcare practitioners. After establishing a footprint in Australia and New Zealand, Melrose plans to bring the range to other markets, including Asian markets experiencing similar concerns about the health of the ageing population.
