Android users, particularly personalization enthusiasts, have long appreciated the customization options available on Android devices, such as themed icons, customizable app icon grids, and a wide variety of customizable widgets. Apple, on the other hand, has been catching up with customization features, introducing monochrome icons and the ability to place them anywhere on the screen in recent iOS updates.
Leaks suggest that Samsung’s upcoming One UI 7 update may follow suit by introducing dynamic theming for icons, similar to Android 12’s Material You dynamic theming. A leaked image of the Samsung Gallery icon with a white square background and rounded corners instead of the current magenta design hints at this potential change. However, it’s important to note that this design is not final and could still change before the beta 5 stage.
It’s not the first time Samsung has attempted a similar icon style with white backgrounds. This was previously tried during the beta stage of One UI 5, but was quickly withdrawn. If the rumors are true, One UI 7 could be one of the major UI overhauls Samsung has delivered. Additionally, there have been suggestions of a vertical app drawer making a comeback, but more information is expected in the coming months.
The One UI 7 beta will undergo further refinement and testing before the final, stable version is released, with design and functional improvements taking shape during this process.
